Emacs vs Vim

Notes from my video ON this topic.

Emacs

• Not just a text editor
• Editor Macros
• It doesn't come preinstalled because it is big
• It is like an operating system
• Lisp interpreter

Vim

• Based on Vi
• Available on almost all the operating systems
• You should know the basics like open a file, edit and save

When I started learning Linux almost 20 years ago I encountered both of them and at some point I was in confusion which editor I should choose.

• There is a learning curve
• Think about problems you are solving today and in future
• I tried Emacs, then moved to Vim and then came back to Emacs
• I use Org Mode
• I also publish using Emacs
